W13 Reflection: Ranking, Link Building, and Google Analytics
There was a lot of new and helpful information shared this week. Many tips, tricks, and best practices that I would have never known about or learned until way later, if at all.
Two things on this week's agenda that go hand in hand are ranking and backlinking. I learned about how important backlinks are and making sure those backlinks are relevant and high quality. I learned that it is better to have fewer backlinks that are higher quality than lots of low-quality backlinks. Also, if your link is not generating much traffic you should get a new one. Taking advantage of social media with backlinks because many of them that come from social media have good or high quality. Take caution with reciprocal links because Google will sometimes discredit its legitimacy and treat them as low quality backlinks.
Google Analytics is a very helpful resource to learning all kinds of things about your business. Almost too many things. It can be overwhelming navigating through Analytics and filtering through information that you want and do not want. For this class, I was able to take advantage of a free demo version that had actual data I was able to analyze and learn my way around, whereas I wouldn't be able to do that on my site because there hasn't been enough data collected from it yet. The AI function on Analytics was helpful when I couldn't quite find what I was looking for. Sometimes it directed me close enough for me to make it the rest of the way and sometimes it knew exactly what I was looking for and gave me the information immediately.
I feel like I've grown a lot more capable and understanding about things surrounding an online business and making it perform well based on the information provided by different resources such as Google Analytics.
